All of the Fort Tuthill adventures are cooperative, nonprofit, and educational in nature which provides our participants with the lowest cost outdoor adventures in the industry. Your adventure will be led by our staff of highly qualified and experienced outdoor professionals. All of our staff members are required to maintain current advanced firt-aid training and adhere to the minimum impact guidelines established by the various land agencies and the Leave-No-trace program.

LOWER GORGE- GRAND CANYON RAFTING
Take the"trip of a lifetime" down the world-famous Lower Gorge of Grand Canyon. This three-day trip provides a wide variety of excitement starting the first day with great rapids, to floating and relaxing in the smooth current on day two and venturing across Lake Mead on the final day. We will navigate the Colorado River in sizeable 16-18 foot rafts providing plenty of room for you and your gear. In addition, inflatable kayaks add an extra level of adventure for those wishing to get closer to the action. Enjoy a true taste of Canyon hospitality including gourmet meals, beach camping and fireside entertainment.
LOWER GORGE NIGHT FLOAT TRIP – Spend one day running world class Grand Canyon whitewater, then on day two, when we reach the calm water, we convert the rafts into a floating bed. Spend the night floating down the canyon under the stars while our guides get you to Lake Mead. This is a truly unique experience which will not be forgotten.
SALT RIVER RAFTING
This one-day trip is loaded with whitewater fun! We will raft through numerous Class III rapids as we venture down the beautiful Salt River Canyon. Our boats will be powered by teamwork, as everybody will have to paddle to help maneuver the crafts. No experience is needed, as your trip leaders will provide expert instruction, however paddling may be physically demanding.
VERDE RIVER KAYAKING
Command your own inflatable kayak as you run the rapids of the scenic Verde River. This one-day trip starts at the town of Camp Verde and ends at the Forest Service take-out, Beasley Flats. You’ll be guided through all the various paddling techniques, rescue procedures and safety precautions. Once you’re on the river you’ll practice your skills in calm water. Expect abundant Class II whitewater, perfect for the beginner kayaker. Wildlife and beautiful scenery also highlight this great introductory float on one of Arizona’s river gems.
BLACK CANYON CANOE AND HOT SPRINGS WEEKEND
Visit the canyon of history, beauty and wildlife. Just below the concrete monolith of Hoover Dam lie the natural curiosities of Sauna Cave and the hot water Gold strike Falls. Scan the steep canyon walls for bighorn sheep or simply enjoy nature’s grandeur as you sooth your muscles in the natural hot tub at Arizona Hot Springs. We will travel by two-person canoe through the calm and beautiful Black Canyon of the Colorado River, camping along the shore and exploring the many geothermal sites. Treat yourself and enjoy a relaxing and peaceful weekend on the river.
GRAND CANYON RIM TO RIM TREK
Grand Canyon is a land to humble the soul. The world seems larger with sunrises, sunsets and storms adding a surreal dimension to the overwhelming landscape. Traveling by foot, we will intimately explore the vast yet intricate face of this startling landscape. We spend three nights below the rim at NPS developed campsites, four days of cross canyon hiking through the most visually powerful vistas on the planet and end with a hot meal at the historic Bright Angel Lodge. For the experienced BACKPACKER, this 21-mile trek through 9000 feet of geological history is an outstanding example of the strenuous, yet rewarding world of Grand Canyon trekking.
HAVASU FALLS BACKPACKING
Explore this world-famous desert oasis of the Havasupai Nation. Havasu Creek is well known for its crystal clear blue-green waters and seemingly tropical vistas that contrast sharply with the stark desert beauty of Grand Canyon. Along this 20-mile hike we will visit 200-foot waterfalls, enjoy the natural Travertine swimming pools and sample the native fare. We will be camping guests of the Havasupai tribe as our hike takes us to their remote and nearly inaccessible village of Supia on their homelands.
KEET SEEL NAVAJO NATIONAL MONUMENT BACKPACK
Join the Outdoor Adventure Program on an exciting weekend backpack adventure to one of the premier Ancestral Pueblan ruins of the Four Corners region. We will hike 8 miles to the Keet Seel cliff dwelling site, where primitive campsites at the bottom of the canyon provide views of the ruin above. Once established at our back country campsite we will join exclusive Ranger-led tours of the ancient “Anasazi” village, occupied nearly 1000 years ago.
SEDONA FULL MOON HIKE
Join us each full moon for a hike through Sedona’s red rock wilderness. This unique experience will take us onto spectacular slickrock formations illuminated by the moonlight.
NAVAJO MOUNTAIN RAINBOW BRIDGE BACKPACK
This three day backpacking trip takes you through the spectacular sandstone formations of Navajo Mountain to Rainbow Bridge – the world’s largest natural bridge near the shores of Lake Powell.
SAN FRANCISCO PEAKS BACKPACK
During this three day backpacking trip we will ascend through ponderosa and aspen forests to Humphrey’s Peak – the highest peak in Arizona. From above the tree line you get a full panoramic view of Flagstaff, Oak Creek Canyon, the Painted Desert, and the Grand Canyon.
ARAVAIPA CANYON BACKPACK
During this three day backpacking trip we will explore this vibrant riparian zone, a rich oasis in the heart of the desert. A good beginner’s backpacking trip, we will view a multitude of wildlife while wading through the cool waters.
MOUNTAIN BIKING TRIPS
MOQUI STAGE –FLAGSTAFF TO GRAND CANYON TOUR
Cover 70 miles during a scenic Mt.Bike adventure beginning in the aspen and fir forest of the San Francisco Peaks just outside Flagstaff. Travel through open prairie and pinon/juniper country in the Kaibab National Forest on route to the Grandview lookout at Grand Canyon. We’ll camp trailside under the stars, enjoy a hardy cookout and finish on Day two with lunch and a marvelous view. The return trip to Fort Tuthill will be provided via van shuttle. A must do for any enthusiastic Mt. Biker.
RAINBOW RIM TRAIL RIDE
Join Fort Tuthill Outdoor Adventure Program on the North Rim of Grand Canyon for a weekend of biking excitement. Overlooking a remarkable landscape of awe-inspiring towers, red rock cliffs and mysterious canyons, we will bike along 20 miles of single track, endless miles of dirt roads and have amble time to soak up the views. With a base camp set up at Timp Point, literally on the Canyon rim, many biking options are available. Shuttle vehicle and camp staff will provide support for the two-night stay. NORTHERN ARIZONA MOUNTAIN BIKING
Flagstaff, Sedona, and the surrounding areas are world class destinations for mountain biking. Hundreds of miles of singletrack take you through forested mountains and slickrock desert offering a huge variety of landscapes for all levels of riders. Using Ft. Tuthill as a home base, our experienced guides will provide the instruction and equipment and lead you on some incredible adventures in the Flagstaff and Sedona area. .
ALTERNATIVE ADVENTURES
CANYON DE CHELLY EXPLORATION
Join Fort Tuthill for an exploratory venture into the fascinating northeastern section of Arizona, highlighted by visits to Navajo and Hopi tribal lands, ancient Pueblan villages and historic ruins. Our main destination, Canyon de Chelly National Monument encompasses beautiful landscapes, vast canyons and numerous Anasazi ruins. Scheduled activities include: a guided tour on many of the Monument’s sites via all-terrain truck, attending informative Ranger programs, hiking into the Canyon and shopping for Native American arts and crafts. We will stay at the shady cottonwood group camp located at Canyon de Chelly, enjoy delicious meals prepared by your trip leaders and discover many other interesting sites in the area.
ZION NATIONAL PARK HIKING
Explore the amazing features of Zion National Park with the Outdoor Adventure Program as we spend a weekend there camping and hiking. After establishing a base at the Watchman Group campground we will take numerous day-hikes to many scenic points through out the Park. Highlights include The Narrows, Angels Landing and the Emerald Pools. First timers to Southern Utah and experienced “Canyoneers” should both enjoy this great weekend.
ANTELOPE CANYON- LAKE POWELL TOUR
Antelope Canyon is at once one of the most breathtaking and tranquil places on earth. Gently carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millenniums, the slot canyons are majestic and narrow passages, just enough space for a small group to walk the sandy floor - and for the occasional shafts of sunlight to shine down from above. Join us for a weekend adventure, which features this fascinating area and camping along nearby Lake Powell. Led by native Navajo guides will we spend most of our two days exploring the two slot canyons that make up Antelope Canyon as well as the shores of beautiful Lake Powell. Many hours will be available for photographing these visual splendors.
EAST CLEAR CREEK CANOEING AND ROCK CLIMBING
We will canoe down this gorgeous sandstone canyon full of perfect swimming locations and ancient petroglyphs. We will set up ropes and climb the canyon walls and enjoy swimming in the creek.
NORTHERN ARIZONA ROCK CLIMBING
Rock climbers from all over the world are drawn to Flagstaff, Sedona, and the surrounding areas. The limestone walls of the Pit and Jack's Canyon offer endless climbing opportunities in incredibly scenic areas. The climbs are perfect for beginners, and can also challenge world class climbers. Using Ft. Tuthill as a home base, our experienced guides will provide the instruction and equipment and lead you on some incredible adventures in the Flagstaff and Sedona area.
